314 Action Endorses Climate Scientist Danielle Meitiv for Montgomery, MD Council-At-Large
Meitiv Made Headlines as the “Free Range Mom,” Successfully Challenging the County’s Ordinances
(Washington, D.C.) -- Today, 314 Action endorsed climate scientist Danielle Meitiv for Montgomery, MD Council at Large. 314 Action is the nation’s only resource specifically created for scientists and STEM professionals looking for assistance running for office.
Meitiv is a climate scientist and trained oceanographer who has worked for NOAA, the Environmental Defense Fund and as an independently contracted scientist researching the impacts of air quality and ocean acidification on climate change. In addition to her extensive work as a climate scientist, Meitiv has proven her ability to effectively work within the local government to affect change after she successfully pushed for a revision of policies after police picked up her children walking home from a local park.
Danielle Meitiv released the following statement:
“It is an honor to be endorsed by 314 Action, an organization that understands the unique and critical roles that scientists can play in public life. As a scientist, I have experience tackling complex problems and making decisions based on facts, not politics. Because I know that best science is done openly and in collaboration with others, I am committed to ensuring that the concerns and perspectives of residents are included when making decisions about our county’s future.”
Shaughnessy Naughton, President of 314 Action, released the following statement:
“Danielle is a proven progressive thought leader who isn’t afraid to stand her ground and stand up for her beliefs. As a climate scientist, she will bring an evidence-based approach to governing that we need more than ever in the Trump era. 314 Action is proud to endorse Danielle for Council-at-Large because we need more independent and analytical voices like hers in public office.”
314 Action is the largest and only resource specifically created for scientists and STEM professionals seeking assistance running for office. 314 Action was founded by members of the STEM community, grassroots supporters and political activists. Formed in July 2016, 314 Action has over 400,000 active members and donors across the United States. 314 Action is concerned that STEM education in the United States is falling further and further behind the rest of the world, that our political leaders continue to deny scientific facts and that Congress fails to fully fund scientific research so we can solve pressing issues.
