314 Action Launches Online Petition to Stop Scott Pruitt

Board of Advisors Release Statement on Pruitt, Perry and Zinke Picks, Petition Launches After  Letter Campaign Garnered over 4,000 Signatures Last Week

(Washington, D.C.) -- 314 Action, a nonprofit committed to giving a unified voice for scientists, the STEM community and pro-science advocates, continued to apply push-back on President Elect Donald Trump’s anti-science picks for his cabinet by launching an online petition to “Stop Scott Pruitt.” Within hours, 2,242 people signed on.

The petition comes after 314 Action’s successful letter campaign urging President Elect Trump to give scientists a seat at the table during his transition. The letter attracted the signatures of over 4,000 scientists and pro-science advocates.

“President Elect Trump’s cabinet is shaping up to be the most anti-science administration in history,” said Dr. Michael E. Mann, Ph.D., Distinguished Professor of Atmospheric Science at Penn State University and 314 Action board member. “Scott Pruitt has made it clear time and time again that he fundamentally disagrees with the EPA. Rick Perry wanted to eliminate the department he is being nominated to head. Ryan Zinke has taken nearly half a million dollars in contributions from fossil fuel companies and an ‘F’ from the National Park Action Fund.  And all three of these men either question or flatly deny the existence of climate change. Trump’s picks are nothing short of an outright assault on science.”

314 Action founder and president of the Board of Advisors, Shaughnessy Naughton, issued the following statement: “Across the country, scientists and those who know the importance of scientific reasoning are organizing and putting the Trump Transition Team on notice that science will not be ignored during his term in office.  This disturbing trend of nominating people who are in direct opposition to the mission of the agencies they aspire to represent must stop."

The petition can be found on 314 Action’s website at:
