314 Action Releases Statement on Rep. Lamar Smith’s (TX-21) Decision Not to Run In 2018

(Washington, D.C.) -- Today, following Rep. Lamar Smith’s announcement that he would not run again for office in 2018, Shaughnessy Naughton, founder of 314 Action, released the following statement:

“On behalf of scientists across the country, we’d like to thank Lamar Smith for not running for office in 2018. The oil and gas industry lost their biggest champion, because for the first time in a generation Representative Smith has had to face a strong challenger in our endorsed candidate, Joseph Kopser. While the assault on science won’t stop under this administration, Smith’s decision to step down gives me hope that science can prevail.”
