314 Action Founder Shaughnessy Naughton Releases Statement on TX-21 Fundraising
314 Action Endorsed Candidate Joseph Kopser Outraised Incumbent Rep. Lamar Smith and Every Democratic Primary Opponent
(Washington, D.C.) -- Today, Joseph Kopser’s campaign announced its Q3 fundraising totals, which showed Kopser had outraised his primary opponents as well as incumbent Rep. Lamar Smith.
Shaughnessy Naughton, founder of 314 Action, released the following statement:
“We’re proud to stand with Joseph, and our network of nearly a quarter million scientists and STEM advocates are more than ready for him to end Rep. Lamar Smith’s fact-denying reign as chair of the House Science Committee. Representative Smith has shown time and time again that he is not afraid to use his role as Chair of the House Science Committee go after scientists who disagree with his straight-up denial of facts on behalf of his corporate sponsors and against the best interests and welfare of his constituents. Today we want him to know that the pro-science community has had enough.
The energy and excitement around Joseph’s campaign should come as no surprise to anyone who has met him know his background. Joseph’s experience as an aerospace engineer, his service in our armed forces and his proven ability to lead a successful tech business make him a dynamic candidate who is well-suited to lead in Congress. We are proud to stand with Joseph, and we look forward to him challenging science’s public enemy number one next November.”
Highlights from Joseph’s fundraising totals:
For the second consecutive quarter, Kopser raised more money than Smith
Kopser’s Q3 contributions were greater than those received by all of his primary opponents combined
Kopser’s fundraising totals in Q2 and Q3 are greater than the amount raised by any of Lamar Smith’s opponents in any election cycle
