Sean Casten

Candidate for US Congress, Illinois' 6th District

  • In 2000, Sean became the president and CEO of Turbosteam Corporation which manufactures custom-built combined heat and power plants, all of which achieved at least double the fuel efficiency of the U.S. electric grid.

  • He co-founded Recycled Energy Development, LLC (“RED”), with a mission to profitably reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the recovery of otherwise wasted energy.

  • In 2005, the USCHPA recognized Sean as a “CHP Champion” for his work advocating the greater use of clean, efficient heat and power generation. In 2009, Sean was recognized as an “Emerging Leader” by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs.

  • Sean earned a Masters of Engineering Management and a M.S. in Biochemical Engineering from the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth.

Sean's Race

  • Sean is running against Peter Roskam who is a longtime climate change denier, once calling global warming “junk science."

  • The 6th District has been traditionally Republican, but Democrats see it as an opportunity to turn blue after President Donald Trump lost it by 7 points in the 2016 presidential campaign.

  • Additionally, the Republican turnout in this district during the primary was significantly lower while the Democratic turnout spiked.
