New Polling Data Show Joseph Kopser within Margin of Error of Chip Roy

Poll of 672 Voters By Change Research Shows Enthusiasm Higher With Democrats

(Washington, D.C.) -- Today, 314 Action and data-scientist-led polling firm Change Research released poll results today showing aerospace engineer Joseph Kopser neck and neck against longtime Texas political operative Chip Roy in the race for Texas' 21st Congressional District. The poll surveyed 672 district voters and has a margin of error of 4%.

Joseph was one of the first candidates endorsed by 314 Action this election cycle.

Key Findings:

  • According to the survey, Kopser has solidified his base with 95% of Democrats supporting him, while only 88% of Republicans prefer Roy. Only 1/3 of undecided Republicans lean toward the former Ken Paxton and Ted Cruz lieutenant.
  • Independent voters like Kopser's background as an engineer and his support for science and evidence based policies with 41% preferring him, while 24% support Roy and 23% support Libertarian candidate Lee Santos.
  • Kopser's voters are also significantly more enthusiastic about the upcoming election by a margin of 64% to 44% over Roy's.

Communications Director for 314 Action, Ted Bordelon, released the following statement:

"Joseph's background as a veteran and engineer and his commitment to country over party are catching on in a district where Democrats have struggled in the past. This is a winnable race, and  the momentum is clearly on Joseph’s side."

TX-21 is an R+10 district according to the Cook Political Report's Partisan Voting Index, which measures how a district performs at the presidential level compared to the nation as a whole, and the district has been held by Republican incumbent Lamar Smith for more than 30 years.

In addition, according to FEC reports filed last week, Kopser outpaced Roy in fundraising for the 2nd consecutive quarter and has banked twice as much cash as his opponent.
