314 Action Congratulates Endorsed State Assembly Candidates in California

Luz Rivas, Dan Kalb and Bill Quirk Each Won Their Elections

(Washington, D.C.) -- 314 Action, the nation’s only resource specifically created for scientists and STEM professionals running for office, congratulated Luz Rivas, Dan Kalb and Bill Quirk for their victories in the election for California’s state assembly. Kalb and Quirk won their primaries, while Rivas won a special general election.
Shaughnessy Naughton, President of 314 Action, released the following statement:
“Luz, Dan and Bill are on the frontlines of the pro-science resistance, and we are thrilled to stand with them. 314 Action is committed to building a pipeline of STEM candidates, and these candidates are the faces of our grassroots movement. When the attacks on science that take place at the federal level seem deafening, the pro-science community should be heartened that science will be defended in state houses across the country, and 314 Action will be there to support them.”

314 Action is the largest and only resource specifically created for scientists and STEM professionals seeking assistance running for office. 314 Action was founded by members of the STEM community, grassroots supporters and political activists. Formed in July 2016, 314 Action has over 400,000 active members and donors across the United States. 314 Action is concerned that STEM education in the United States is falling further and further behind the rest of the world, that our political leaders continue to deny scientific facts and that Congress fails to fully fund scientific research so we can solve pressing issues.
