314 Action Endorses Pharmacist and Medical Entrepreneur Nancy McFarlane for Mayor of Raleigh, 17 Local and School Board Candidates
(Washington, D.C.) -- Today, 314 Action endorsed Nancy McFarlane for reelection as the mayor of Raleigh, NC. McFarlane is a pharmacist and a medical entrepreneur who has served as the Mayor of Raleigh since 2011. Nancy is the only top 50 city mayor in office who has a STEM background.
Shaughnessy Naughton, founder of 314 Action, released the following statement:
“314 Action is excited to endorse Nancy for mayor. As the only mayor of a major city with a STEM background, I am proud to stand with her in her bid for re-election. Leaders like Nancy are truly STEM trailblazers, and I hope that our endorsement serves as an inspiration to other STEM professionals and scientists who are considering getting in the game and running for office.”
314 Action also endorsed 17 local and school board candidates, as part of an effort to create a pipeline of STEM candidates. These candidates are the first of many more endorsements to come for local races, and represent a portion of the nearly 7,000 scientists and STEM professionals who have reached out for training and assistance since 314 Action launched its candidate recruitment effort in January of 2017.
