314 Action Congratulates Navy Veteran and Nuclear Engineer Elaine Luria on Victory in VA-02
(Washington, D.C.) -- 314 Action, the largest organization created specifically for scientists and STEM professionals running for office, congratulated veteran Navy Commander and nuclear engineer Elaine Luria on her victory in the race to represent Virginia’s Second Congressional District.
Luria defeated incumbent Rep. Scott Taylor in one of the hardest fought and closely watched races in the this year’s midterm elections.
314 Action and its network of more than 400,000 scientists, STEM professionals and science supporters were early boosters of Luria’s campaign. 314 Action contributed the maximum allowable amount to her campaign and provided extensive logistical support throughout the primary and general election campaign.
President and Co-Founder of 314 Action, Shaughnessy Naughton, released the following statement:
“Elaine proved to be an incredible campaigner and this win is a huge victory for pro-science advocates and Democrats alike. Republicans did everything they could to avoid a head-to-head contest with Elaine and her message of facts and evidence over partisan politics. Second district voters made the best choice, and 314 Action is proud to have supported her campaign.”
