314 Action Fund Congratulates Anna Aho Rink on Flipping Michigan House District 109

Anna Aho Rink has won the race for Michigan House District 109. She defeated Republican incumbent Karl Bohnak and flipped one of the most competitive House seats in Michigan. As a Physician Assistant, she is one of 314 Action’s Guardians of Public Health candidates. In response to her victory, 314 Action President Shaughnessy Naughton issued the following statement:

“Congratulations to Anna Aho Rink on flipping Michigan House District 109. As a physician assistant, she worked at Planned Parenthood in rural Michigan for 17 years until cuts forced the clinic to close their doors. With her win tonight, Anna will replace the anti-choice Republican who cheered on those cuts and eliminated access to healthcare for women in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula,” said 314 Action President Shaughnessy Naughton.

In 2024, Republicans won this seat by just 3%, it was the second closest margin for a state House race in the state. This year, Democrats need to flip four seats in the Michigan House to secure a Democratic majority in the chamber and her victory puts Michgian Democrats on a path to taking back control of the House.

Anna Aho Rink is a Physician Assistant and reproductive health expert who worked at a rural Planned Parenthood clinic in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for 17 years before its doors closed due to funding cuts. She is one of 314 Action’s Guardians of Public Health candidates, as the organization works to elect 100 new doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals to office by 2030, raising and spending over $25 million in the effort.
