314314 Action Fund Congratulates Congresswoman-Elect Christina Bohannan on Flipping Iowa’s 1st District

314 Action Fund congratulates Christina Bohannan on her victory in Iowa’s 1st Congressional District, defeating Republican Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks in one of the most competitive races in the country. In response, 314 Action President Shaughnessy Naughton released the following statement:

“Congratulations to Christina Bohannan on flipping Iowa’s 1st Congressional District,” said Shaughnessy Naughton, President of 314 Action. “Mariannette Miller-Meeks backed a plan to take healthcare away from 146,000 Iowans while taking money from Big Pharma. Bohannan spent her campaign making the case for affordable care, in a state with the highest cancer rates in the country, and Iowans sent her to Washington. Iowa’s 1st Congressional District was the closest race in the country two years ago. Tonight it belongs to an engineer who never stopped fighting for Iowans.

“Iowans are watching their premiums climb and their coverage get cut, and Bohannan never let anyone in this district forget who voted for it,” continued Naughton. “As Donald Trump and RFK Jr. wreck our public health agencies, more than ever we need elected officials in Washington who will use evidence to make policies that make healthcare more affordable and accessible. 314 Action Fund has endorsed Bohannan since she ran for the Iowa statehouse, and there’s no one we’d rather celebrate with tonight.”

314 Action Fund has supported engineer-by-training Christina Bohannan from the beginning and invested in her race again in 2026. This cycle, 314 Action Fund spent $1.16 million across digital, mail and TV to boost her candidacy and get her across the finish line. The race for IA-01 was decided by just 799 votes in 2024.

Before Congress, Bohannan represented Iowa’s 85th House District, a seat she won in 2020 by unseating a 20-year incumbent by more than 30 points. An environmental engineer and law professor, she used her time in the legislature to stand up for working families, fund public schools, and help small business owners recover from COVID-19.
