314 Action Calls on Senators to Reject CDC Director Nomination

“We Can’t Afford to Make the Same Mistake Twice”

(Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) — One week ago, the United States Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee held a confirmation hearing on the nomination of Erica Schwartz to the Director of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In her hearing, Schwartz refused to promise that she would stand up to Robert F. Kennedy’s assault on public health. 314 Action President Shaughnessy Naughton released the following statement:

“It’s been one week since Erica Schwartz’s abysmal nomination hearing and now the Senate has an important decision to make. As the nation’s only organization dedicated to electing scientists and doctors to office, 314 Action is calling on Senators to reject Erica Schwartz’s nomination for CDC Director. It’s time to rebuke the Trump administration and send a clear message—we can’t afford to make the same mistake twice.

“Regardless of her qualifications, it’s clear that Erica Schwartz is nothing but a loyalist to the Trump regime. As the nation continues to face multiple outbreaks from measles to cyclospora, we need a CDC Director who will stand up to Trump and RFK Jr., follow the science and lead with evidence—even when it is politically inconvenient. When her nomination goes to the floor for a vote, 314 Action urges Senators to reject Schwartz’s nomination and refuse any nominee who puts politics over public health.”
