Adam Cleveland will be the next State Representative for Georgia House District 48. A biologist and lawyer by training, Cleveland defeated Rep. Scott Hilton in a competitive race for the seat. In response, 314 Action President Shaughnessy Naughton released the following statement:
“314 Action Fund congratulates Adam Cleveland, the next State Representative for Georgia House District 48. Adam just flipped one of the the most competitive seats in the Georgia legislature as Democrats pick up tossup races in swing states across the country. As Republicans in Georgia continue to undermine trust in our elections since Donald Trump lost in 2020, we need leaders like Representative-elect Cleveland in the statehouse who understands the stakes and the science.”
House District 48 was represented by a Democrat as recently as 2022, when former Rep. Mary Robichaux held the seat. Cleveland’s victory is part of a broader wave of candidates with backgrounds in science, medicine and engineering stepping up to challenge Republican leadership and bring evidence-based policymaking back to local, state and federal government.
“Adam will fight to protect Georgians’ right to vote without political interference, lower health care costs, expand Medicaid and restore funding and support for Georgia’s Centers for Disease Control,” said Naughton. “As a biologist and lawyer, Georgians will have a representative in the statehouse they can trust to tell the truth and defend science.”
Adam Cleveland is an attorney, with both his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and Law Degree from the University of Georgia. Adam has already done the work of a legislator. From 2015 through 2020 he co-wrote, testified before the General Assembly to support, and ultimately shepherded the passage of three bills to ensure meaningful judgment enforcement in Georgia. His attention to diverse needs and opposing views led to the 2020 bill passing with unanimous approval in both chambers of the General Assembly.
