314 Action Fund Congratulates Dr. Ami Bera on Election to California’s 3rd Congressional District

Dr. Ami Bera has won his bid for California’s 3rd Congressional District, defeating Republican Robb Tucker and returning a physician to Washington. Dr. Bera is one of 314 Action’s Vanguards of Science. In response, 314 Action President Shaughnessy Naughton released the following statement:

“Dr. Bera spent 21 years caring for patients and serving as Sacramento County’s Chief Medical Officer before he ever cast a vote in Congress. As a founding member of the Congressional Democratic Doctors’ Caucus, he has led the charge to protect access to healthcare and combated every Republican attempt to gut Medicaid and push premiums higher,” said Shaughnessy Naughton, President of 314 Action. “

“With RFK Jr. running the nation’s health agencies, Congress needs physicians in the room making healthcare policy. Dr. Bera uniquely understands what these cuts mean for patients, because he has treated them. He will hold this administration accountable and keep fighting to lower costs for California families. We were proud to stand with him this cycle and we’ll be with him in the next Congress,” Naughton added.

Dr. Bera was first elected to Congress in 2012. He previously represented California’s 6th Congressional District. Following the passage of Proposition 50, Dr. Bera made the decision to run in the redrawn 3rd Congressional District, which covers the Greater Sacramento area.

Prior to his election to Congress, he served Sacramento County for 21 years as a doctor, as the county’s Chief Medical Officer and as a Clinical Professor of Medicine at UC Davis, where he trained the next generation of physicians. He is a founding member of the Democratic Doctors Caucus.
