(Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) — Jacqui Irwin is moving on to the general election in California’s 26th Congressional District after her victory in a crowded field of opponents. In response, 314 Action President Shaughnessy Naughton released the following statement:
“Congratulations to Jacqui Irwin on her decisive victory in California’s 26th Congressional District primary last night.
“For over a decade, Jacqui has shown what it means to be a data-driven leader in the California State Assembly, passing legislation to create jobs, protect the environment, and build infrastructure. She’s worked across party lines to deliver lasting results, focusing on finding solutions over political ideology. Voters know they can trust Jacqui to use her experience and expertise and fight for CA-26 every day—because that’s what she’s done in the state legislature for over 12 years.
“We were proud to support Jacqui in the State Assembly—and know she’ll continue her record of passing pro-science legislation in Washington. She exemplifies the importance of electing STEM candidates to offices up and down the ballot. When we invest in our scientists and pro-science candidates—we win. Once elected, she will become one of the only women engineers ever elected to Congress. We’re proud to stand with Jacqui again in the general election and look forward to continuing to support her through November—and in Washington.”
Jacqui Irwin is a trained system engineer and experienced public servant with two decades of leadership in civic service. She has served for 12 years in the California State Assembly and previously was elected the Mayor of Thousand Oaks and served on the Thousand Oaks City Council. In the Assembly, she authored and passed numerous pieces of legislation to protect the environment, create jobs, support military service members, and keep families and children safe. Irwin currently chairs the Joint Legislative Committee on Climate Change Policies and is a member of the Agriculture Committee, Business and Professions Committee, Higher Education Committee, and the Privacy & Consumer Protection Committee.
