Dr. Annie Andrews is the Senator-elect for South Carolina and the first Democratic woman doctor ever elected to the U.S. Senate. A pediatrician and mom, Andrews defeated appointed Senator Darline Graham to become the first Democrat elected to the Senate from South Carolina since 1998. 314 Action President Shaughnessy Naughton issued the following statement:
“Congratulations to South Carolina’s next Senator, Dr. Annie Andrews,” said Shaughnessy Naughton, President of 314 Action. “Dr. Annie Andrews has built her career caring for children in the emergency room and fighting to improve the lives of South Carolinians. She ran a tough race, outraising and outworking her opponent for more than a year, and she will bring the same steady judgment to Washington that she brings to an exam room.”
“From the day 314 Action Fund endorsed her in June 2025, we knew South Carolina voters would trust a doctor over her unqualified opponent, and this week they proved it. Andrews has spent her career treating South Carolina’s kids. Washington is about as unpopular as it has ever been, while families still trust the person who cares for their child when they’re sick.”
314 Action Fund endorsed Andrews in 2025 as a Guardians of Public Health, a $25 million recruitment campaign to elect 100 new doctors, nurses and healthcare leaders to states and Congress by 2030.
“Dr. Andrews makes history as the first female Democratic doctor to be elected to the U.S. Senate. At a time when RFK Jr. is gutting public health from the inside, the Senate needs her expertise. We look forward to working with her to lower costs, protect South Carolina’s children, and put science back at the center of health policy,” Naughton added.
Dr. Annie Andrews is an experienced pediatrician who has spent her career caring for South Carolina’s children, including kids in emergencies. She has seen firsthand how politicians’ votes hurt the families they are supposed to protect, from sky-high prescription drug prices to gun violence. In the Senate, she will fight to lower health care costs and make sure every family can raise their kids in safety, with access to affordable care, strong public schools, and economic security.
