Shannon Wayne is the Representative-elect for Michigan House District 31. A Milan City Councilmember and PhD engineer who spent nearly 30 years at Ford Motor Company, Wayne will fill the seat vacated by Democrat Reggie Miller. In response, 314 Action Fund President Shaughnessy Naughton released the following statement:
“Congratulations to Shannon Wayne, the next state representative for Michigan’s 31st House District. Her engineering expertise, three decades of experience at Ford, and record of delivering on Milan City Council and as Mayor Pro Tem have prepared her to be an effective legislator.”
With at least five seats flipping from red to blue, Democrats regained control of the Michigan House, forming a governing trifecta with the state Senate and Governor’s Office. Holding onto House District 31 was essential to regaining the trifecta.
“Winning back the Michigan House ran through our STEM-endorsed candidates, and we’re proud that Shannon will join their ranks in Lansing alongside physician assistant Anna Rink, who won in the 109th District. With Trump and RFK Jr. undermining science in Washington, Michiganders need proven qualified people like Shannon fighting for them at home. In many ways, statehouses are on the frontlines of the fight to combat the war on science, improve healthcare and fight rising costs. Shannon has already shown she can deliver practical solutions at the local level and we look forward to seeing her bring that same results-driven leadership to the statehouse.”
A lifelong Michigander raised in a blue-collar union family, Shannon Wayne understands the importance of good-paying jobs and strong public services for working families. As Mayor Pro Tem of Milan, she has helped secure millions in community investments while maintaining a balanced budget and protecting taxpayer dollars. Appointed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer to the Michigan Technological University Board of Trustees, Wayne also serves as an adjunct professor at Lawrence Technological University, reflecting her commitment to education and expanding opportunities for the next generation. She and her husband, Kevin, are raising their three children in the 31st District, where she remains dedicated to building a stronger future for local families.
