314 Action Statement on Casey Means U.S. Surgeon General Nomination

February 25, 2026

(Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) — Today, Casey Means appeared before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee for her nomination to the U.S. Surgeon General. In response, 314 Action President Shaughnessy Naughton released the following statement:

“Casey Means is a medical residency drop out and a grifter—the Senate must not confirm this unqualified, unlicensed and conflicted quack to be our nation’s top doctor.

“Means wouldn’t qualify for membership in the USPHS Regular Corps—and she certainly shouldn’t be confirmed to lead it. She’s an RFK Jr. apologist and wellness influencer who has made her fortune from the sale of pseduo-science supplements—all while undermining medical advancements. If confirmed, she would join RFK Jr. in changing the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act, creating a multi-billion industry for his allies and associates. Between her rejection of the scientific consensus and her inactive medical license, Means is deeply unqualified to lead.

“We’ve seen what happens when we put unqualified anti-vax quacks in charge. The Senate must reject her confirmation. The lives of millions of Americans depend on Republicans not making the same mistake twice.”

314 Action is the only national organization working to recruit, train and elect Democratic scientists across all levels of government—from the Senate down to local school boards. The organization is powered by a grassroots community of over six million people supporting scientists and health care professionals who will use science and facts to address the most urgent issues facing our generation.

Means does not hold an active medical license—she is not authorized to practice medicine. She dropped out of her residency, is not a board-certified physician, and has very limited experience in professional medical practice.

In addition to her lack of medical practice, Means also has no government experience.

Means is skeptical of proven medication, including birth control, something 90% of women will rely on at some point in their lives.

She follows the same dangerous anti-vaccine agenda as RFK Jr., opposing hepatitis B vaccinations for babies and promoting the falsehood that vaccines cause autism.

Means also called to reform the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act, which would enrich her former coworkers on RFK Jr.’s presidential campaign as well as RFK Jr.’s family and friends.

Even making hundreds of thousands of dollars promoting supplements and other wellness products—instead of traditional medication—Means repeatedly failed to disclose her partnerships.

Means encouraged patients to trust their intuition rather than doctors and promoted “healthy” solutions that are only sustainable for the wealthy elite.
