“Morally wrong and politically risky”
(Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) — Today, Donald Trump signed the ‘Gold Standard Childhood Vaccine Recommendations,’ a new executive order upending scientific and federal guidance on childhood vaccines. In response, 314 Action President Shaughnessy Naughton released the following statement:
“Trump wants to add measles, mumps, and whooping cough to back-to-school shopping lists. His ‘gold standard’ executive order unraveling recommendations for childhood vaccines in schools are void of any detectable evidence or scientific rigor.
“We are deeply saddened by the actions of the Trump administration today and the chaos it will unleash on families across the country. This is a cruel and dangerous order that will complicate the childhood vaccination schedule and further undermine confidence in vaccines altogether. They want vaccines unbundled, but they are complaining that there are too many shots—it just doesn’t add up.
“Their end goal is to eliminate all childhood vaccine recommendations—and this executive order brings them one step closer. However, the fact remains that childhood vaccines are trusted and supported across all parties, including among MAGA voters. This executive order is morally wrong and politically risky—instead of working to make sure parents and children have access to healthcare, Trump is opening the door to deadly infectious diseases, just in time for back to school.
“Since Republicans in Congress have shown no desire or ability to hold Trump and RFK Jr. accountable over their anti-vax fever dreams, it is critical that we win back the House and Senate—and the path to the majority runs through 314 Action doctors, scientists, nurses and engineers.”
