Dr. Richard Pan Claims Top-Two Spot in CA-06 Primary

Dr. Richard Pan has advanced to second place in the top-two race for California’s 6th Congressional District. In response, 314 Action Executive Director Erik Polyak released the following statement:

“With the latest results, Dr. Richard Pan has surged to the top-two spot to advance to the general election—because voters trust him to beat MAGA extremist Kevin Kiley. As more results are counted from Sacramento and Yolo, where he served as a legislator for over a decade, we are confident that Dr. Pan has the momentum to hold onto the top-two spot and win in November.”

“With redistricting efforts changing the map this cycle, it’s crucial to elect a Democrat who is trusted by voters and can beat any challenger—and that’s Dr. Pan. Even though Kevin Kiley changed his party affiliation from Republican to Independent, this is still a red-to-blue race and an important pickup opportunity for Democrats in the midterms.

“Voters now have a choice between a doctor who helped expand healthcare in the state, or a Republican attempting to hide from his MAGA record to take healthcare away. 314 Action is all-in on supporting Dr. Pan and will continue to work with him to make the case to the people of California’s 6th Congressional District from now until Election Day.”

314 Action Fund previously launched a joint fundraising committee to “Stop RFK Jr.” and $1.5 million investment to boost Dr. Richard Pan’s candidacy in the primary race, with a six-figure TV ad campaign highlighting his background as a pediatrician and role in responding to California’s measles outbreak.

Dr. Richard Pan is a pediatrician, UC Davis professor and former California legislator. He earned his BA in Biophysics at Johns Hopkins University, MD at the University of Pittsburgh, and MPH at Harvard University and currently teaches health policy at UC Davis. In the legislature, Dr. Pan chaired the Committee on Health and led the state’s implementation of the Affordable Care Act. He also reduced the uninsured rate by two-thirds and authored California’s landmark vaccination laws.
