MeidasTouch, Spectrum News, Politico, and Axios all spotlight the pro-science PAC’s record fundraising, outsized role in 2026 primaries, and early push to draft Sen. Mark Kelly for president

(Philadelphia. Pennsylvania) — Last week, 314 Action Fund announced it surpassed $100 million raised since the organization’s founding in 2016, positioning it as one of the most consequential outside groups in Democratic politics heading into the midterms and 2028. This cycle alone, the organization has raised more than $25 million, a quarter of its lifetime total and made a record $14.5 million investment in Democratic primaries, the largest primary investment in its history.

Axios: Group promoting science urges Kelly to run for president

  • “A liberal group working to elect scientists to public office has a 2028 message for Arizona Sen. — and former astronaut — Mark Kelly: Run, Kelly, run.
  • Why it matters: 314 Action Fund has raised its profile this cycle, elevating candidates with STEM backgrounds who’ve pitched themselves as a bulwark against public health cuts and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
  • The organization said it raised more than $100 million over the past decade — including $25 million during the 2026 midterms, more than half of which it spent on this year’s Democratic primaries.”

MeidasTouch: Grassroots Fund to Elect Doctors and Scientists Announces Record Breaking Fundraising for 2026 Election

  • “314 Action has also made a record $14.5 million investment in STEM candidates in Democratic primaries this year, the largest primary investment in its history.
  • The organization announced Monday that more than 550,000 grassroots donors have supported the organization’s work, and nearly 70% of all contributions to 314 Action Fund come from grassroots donors.”

Spectrum News: While national Democrats struggle with cash, one PAC has raised millions to elect candidates with STEM backgrounds

  • “The Democratic National Committee ended June with $18.5 million in debt and just $16.3 million cash on hand — a much smaller war chest than the Republican National Committee, which at the end of June had $129 million cash on hand. Political operatives in a midterm election year will tell you that’s cause for alarm as Democrats seek to retake the House and make a longshot bid for the Senate.
  • 3.14 Action, a Democratic-aligned political action committee, isn’t having such a problem. The PAC has raised and invested $25 million this cycle alone to elect candidates with scientific backgrounds up and down the ballot in some of the most competitive races.”

POLITICO: Playbook

  • 2028 WATCH: “The increasingly prominent 314 Action Fund, which bolsters Democratic scientists running for office, is all in on Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) for president.”
