“314 Action congratulates Dana Barrett for advancing to a runoff to be Georgia’s next Secretary of State. Facts are the backbone of our democracy, and we need leaders willing to stand up for the truth no matter what this administration throws their way,” said Shaughnessy Naughton, President of 314 Action. “Over the past decade, we’ve watched Trump and Republicans lie with impunity, intimidate voters and tear down the pillars of our democracy—that’s why 314 Action has proudly endorsed three high-profile candidates running for Secretary of State.”
Today, 314 Action is proud to announce U.S. Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ), an engineer and NASA astronaut, will join U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper (D-CO), the only peer-reviewed scientist in the Senate, in conversation in a virtual conversation “Facts vs. Fiction: The Fight for Science in American Democracy” hosted by COURIER Newsroom on June 11. Sen. Kelly and Sen. Hickenlooper have been on the frontlines of fighting back against the Trump administration’s attacks on science and democracy. Dr. Annie Andrews—a 314 Action-endorsed pediatrician running for U.S. Senate in South Carolina against Lindsey Graham, is also set to join a panel conversation alongside newly elected Florida Representative Emily Gregroy (FL-HD-87), U.S. vaccine expert Dr. Paul A. Offit (Director of the Vaccine Education Center), and 314 Action President Shaughnessy Naughton. Former meteorologist Representative Eric Sorensen (IL-17) will also deliver remarks.
“Dr. Clark’s win is a clear signal that voters trust scientists on the ballot. After flipping a Gwinnett County seat long held by a Republican incumbent, she became a leading Democratic voice in the legislature, standing up for science, exposing misinformation and blocking the most extreme legislation proposed by the Georgia GOP."
“Dr. Nirav Shah is the clear frontrunner in this race and 314 Action is all-in to make sure he gets over the finish line in the June primary. He has spent his career protecting American families from disease and outbreak, and he has proven he can lead through a crisis. His pandemic leadership became a national model, and voters recognize that experience matters. He will become Maine’s next Governor because voters are ready for doctors and scientists to be their elected officials who put evidence and facts first.”
In 2026, 314 Action has already committed more than we have in previous cycles and invested earlier, because we’re not waiting for November, we are shaping the field now. Despite the results nationwide, 2024 was the most successful election year on record for 314 Action Fund. We invested just over $3 million in the primary season for that cycle, ultimately helping elect or re-elect 248 Democratic scientists across the country, including a total of seven new STEM members to Congress. With more than double that committed to key Democratic primaries in 2026, 314 Action Fund is on track to deliver more wins in the midterms. The following memo outlines our major investments this cycle and our focus on the next 60 days.
"RFK Jr.'s anti-science policies have left the United States dangerously unprepared for the next outbreak. As health secretary, he continues to spread dangerous lies and half-truths to undermine confidence in childhood vaccines, modern medicine and the healthcare system as a whole. That’s why 314 Action is targeting RFK Jr. in the midterms—his policies are dangerous, deeply unpopular and have left Americans sicker and more susceptible to death and disease."
“When do you build the ark? Before the flood,” said 314 Action President Shaughnessy Naughton. “It’s been over a week since the World Health Organization first announced its response to the hantavirus outbreak—and RFK Jr. has stayed virtually silent. Americans are in the dark because RFK Jr. hasn’t issued any health alerts or communicated updates to the public on how his team is managing the outbreak, and they are turning to their local doctors for answers."
“Dr. Shah is the leader Maine needs right now,” said 314 Action President Shaughnessy Naughton. “He has spent his career protecting American families from disease and outbreak, and he has proven he can lead through a crisis. His pandemic leadership became a national model, and voters recognize that experience matters. With four public polls confirming, he is now the clear front-runner in this race and he will become Maine’s next governor in November.”
“Despite all of his attempts to show loyalty, FDA Commissioner Marty Makary is the latest casualty in Donald Trump’s return to an Apprentice-style presidency, though RFK Jr. insists “he made the call.”Let me be clear: voters don’t care who made the call, they want affordable healthcare, low drug prices and access to safe and effective medication—and that’s what they deserve from their next FDA Commissioner."
“We are coming up on our 10th anniversary of 314 Action, and have done a lot of work in bringing more scientists and doctors into Congress and all levels of government,” said Shaughnessy Naughton, President of 314 Action. “They went to school to do something completely different, but a lot of them are feeling compelled to take this step into public office because of the onslaught of attacks—especially from this administration, on public health, on science, and our future ability to be a world leader in science and innovation.”
